Getting visibility into when and how people are using CRM is has been a challenge for years but a new feature in CRM 2016 (spring) is a really cool and quick way to get started. It’s the Organization Insights Dashboard!
(This is a prototype environment that only has me and a couple of sample users, so forgive the ‘light’ usage.)
Getting Started in your CRM 2016 Spring Online environment
To enable this cool feature:
- Go to “Settings / Administration” – Choose “System Settings” – Select the “Preview” tab.
- Check the box indicating that you have read and agreed to the license terms – (don’t worry, they’ll take good care of your firstborn.)
- Then click ‘yes’ by the Organization Insights Preview and save it.
Now go to your customization area and find/select the Organization Insights Dashboard and click on “Enable Security Roles” – then check any roles you want to be able to see this dashboard. Note: You might keep it to yourself initially, just to understand what the application tracks and understand how to interpret the data.
Publish Customizations and refresh your browser – you should now see a new, almost exciting, dashboard!
Customizing your Organization Insights Dashboard
Although the default dashboard shows 4 panes, there are actually 6 different graphs available. They are just another component that can be added to a dashboard. You can add any or all six of these components to existing or new new dashboard. (See the first screenshot as an example)
Enjoy the new insights into how your organization!
This type of insight is great and only takes a few moments to begin exploring, but for deeper view of the data, I’m currently extracting and analyzing the activities and audit logs in PowerBI as a way to explore usage of specific entities and even the actual fields on those entities – that type of granularity may be more than you need, but if you’re interested in exploring your usage data usage further, please reach out!
